Fiber and construction matter
Pile style, density, fiber and use rating affect feel and care. A soft sample alone cannot predict performance. For pets, discuss snagging potential and realistic stain-cleaning requirements.
Cushion is not an afterthought
The cushion should meet the carpet manufacturer’s requirements. Thickness alone is not a quality measure, and stairs or commercial settings may require different specifications.
Plan seams, doors and stairs
Discuss seam placement, room widths, door clearance and adjoining hard-floor transitions. Confirm whether stair carpeting or a runner is part of the specific scope.
Keep moisture out of the plan
Carpet is not a suitable response to a damp substrate. Address water intrusion first, vacuum as recommended and follow the manufacturer’s professional-cleaning guidance.

Can carpet work on stairs?
Appropriately selected carpet can be used on stairs, but the product, edge detail, secure fitting and stair geometry need assessment. Include stairs explicitly rather than assuming they are covered by room measurements.
